The Perth Hebrew School is the oldest Jewish educational facility in Perth, Western Australia. It was established in the 1890’s around the same time as the Perth Hebrew Congregation. The objects of the PHS remain as true as they were over a hundred years ago, namely “to organise and maintain classes for the teaching of Hebrew and Religion to Jewish children”. The Perth Hebrew School has a long and distinguished history of Jewish education in close association with the Perth Hebrew Congregation.
For many years, the Perth Hebrew School provided the sole source of formal Jewish education to the children of the Perth Jewish community. However, with the establishment of Carmel School, the role of the Perth Hebrew School has changed to providing Jewish education for those students who do not attend Carmel School or supplementing the Jewish education received by those students who do attend Carmel School.
