St Monica's Catholic Primary School Footscray

Wingfield Street, Footscray VIC 3011

St Monica's Catholic Primary School has served the families of Footscray for 160 years. It has a strong history and tradition for providing an excellent education experience for our students.  Our families come from a wide range of ethnic and cultural groups. This richness in diversity is one of our key strengths

St Monica's is a Catholic School.  Gospel values inform every aspect of our school life: academic, social, and spiritual.

St Monica's provides an intimate learning environment, with small classes and focused teaching, where everyone knows everyone else.  Respectful and caring relationships act as a major support for the excellent learning that occurs in our community.

At St Monica’s we believe that excellent learning happens when learners are safe, happy, well supported and challenged. Our students, parents and staff work hard to create such a learning environment. We also ensure that learning is fun!

We have the best of both worlds physically: housed in historic buildings the learning spaces reflect 21st Century learning after a $2 million  refurbishment and extension funded through the Federal Government's 'Building the Education Revolution' program.

Our motto is Learning Together and our school provides a diverse, challenging and supportive learning environment with high expectations. We learn together, in an atmosphere of mutual respect. Our school values are the basis of the actions of the whole school community Care, Excellence, Fairness, Honesty and Respect. The primary school years provide the foundation for childrens learning and we provide an engaging and stimulating learning environment in which this can occur. The focus of our teaching and learning is to optimise literacy and numeracy outcomes. International research clearly shows that literacy outcomes are one of the greatest determinants of student success beyond primary school, this knowledge drives the successful teaching approaches implemented. Specialist programs offered include Art, LOTE (Chinese), Music and Physical Education. All of our children are involved in a range of activities that supplement the learning they do in the classroom, camps, excursions, sporting opportunities, music and art programs, and lunchtime clubs and activities. Whole school events such as Friday Market, book week, literacy and numeracy week, and the bi annual Fest and Art Shows, are opportunities for parents, staff and students to work together. The school is well supported by an active parent community and the subcommittees of our school Council, and the Parents and Friends Association are avenues for parent involvement in the school, as are our working bees and classroom helper program. Parents have opportunities to assist with camps, excursions, sports teams, special days and general classroom assistance. A look at our website or Facebook page will give parents an idea of the many programs and events that make FCPS the unique and exciting school that it is. I welcome your enrolment in our school and look forward to developing a valued and positive relationship with your child and you. Steve Warner Principal
